Bay & Bow Windows

An arrangement of windows to form a bay

Overview of Bay Windows…
UPVC and Aluminium Bay windows project out from the wall; a center window parallel to the wall is flanked by two windows attached at an angle, usually casement or double-hung styles.

Box bays have side windows at a 90-degree angle.

  • How To Recognise Them – UPVC and Aluminium Bay windows are combinations of three or more windows projecting outward from a room.
  • UPVC and Aluminium Bow windows are a variation of bay windows, made up of four or more window units joined at equal angles to form a curve.
  • Why To Choose Them – A bow or bay window lets you maximize space and take advantage of multiple views. It also makes a room appear more open and spacious, increases the flow of light into a
home, and can add counter area to a room.
  • Where To Place Them – Bay and bow window units can be used in many different architectural settings. Because they extend outward from the home, they tend to alter the basic configuration of a structural style, adding uniqueness.
  • They work particularly well in rooms where you are trying to create a greater sense of spaciousness. They are popular choices in living rooms and master bedrooms.
  • They offer superior insulation making them energy efficient and saving you money on your energy bills. They are highly secure and suit virtually any style of property and are virtually mainatence free.
  • UPVC and Aluminium Bay and Bow windows from PSA are available in range of colour and woodgrain finishes. • They are not tied to any particular trade and therefore there protection schemes apply to a wide range of products and services.

• Regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) they offer a range of services to protect the you when purchasing home improvements, delivering complete peace of mind from beginning to end, and beyond.

Who is A CPA Member?
A CPA member is a company that has met the CPA’s strict criteria which ensures that they are thoroughly professional in their chosen industry.

• Membership is ONLY offered to those companies the CPA feel can offer the consumer a professional, reliable and ethical product and service, and can prove they have the ability to produce the highest quality of work.

• Members who offer Deposit Indemnity and/or Insurance Backed Guarantees on their work include this insurance at no additional cost to you.

Confidence in CPA Approved Installers:
Improving your home can be expensive at the best of times, but when you have not properly looked into the contractor you are hiring you could be left high and dry, facing severe financial losses.

The CPA was established to fulfil two functions: To assist in the elimination of unscrupulous trades from the home improvement market and to protect the consumer by regulating and raising standards of operation.

Each and every CPA member is thoroughly checked and approved to ensure they meet the exacting standards of best practices within their chosen trade. Only then are they eligible to join the CPA membership scheme that requires them to display consistent craftsmanship and excellent customer service.

The CPA was established to fulfil two functions: to assist in the elimination of unscrupulous trades from the home improvement market and to protect the consumer by regulating and raising standards of operation.

The CPA offer two forms of Protection Service:
1. CPA Insurance Backed Guarantee

2. CPA Deposit Protection

CPA Insurance Backed Guarantee:
PROTECTING YOUR GUARANTEE FOR UP TO 10 YEARS. When having home improvement works carried out on your property, it is essential to make sure an insurance policy is in place and given to you, by way of business, as part of the overall sale to protect you from unforseeable circumstances.

This is the best form of protection. However, there are many companies that only ‘offer’ this service and do not give it, leaving many homeowners believing they are covered when they are not.

An Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) is valuable protection in the unlikely event of the Consumer Protection Association member ceasing to trade due to liquidation or bankruptcy. The guarantee given by the CPA installing company is valid the whole time they are trading and so any defects should be corrected by them.

If, due to the liquidation, receivership, administration or winding up of the business due to bankruptcy, state retirement or death of the principal(s), the company no longer exists, faults appearing after they cease to trade will be covered by the IBG. Depending on the work undertaken the IBG is available for a period up to 10 years and is backed by an authorised insurer.

Important Notice:
You MUST apply for your Insurance Backed Guarantee, otherwise you will not be covered. Once work has been completed ask the CPA member for an Insurance Backed Guarantee form. You must apply for this within 28 days of the contract being completed to your entire satisfaction and once you have paid the CPA member. When we have processed your application, you will be sent an Insurance Certificate. Without this certificate you are not insured, therefore, if you do not receive it within 28 days, contact us.

CPA Deposit Protection:

Many trades require to take a deposit before starting a job, this is usual practice. Making sure your deposit is insured is essential, if it is not and the company fails you will lose your money. All CPA Approved companies who take a deposit from you can offer you this protection.

The CPA deposit protection scheme is insurance for the deposit you pay to secure the work to be carried out on your home.

This insurance covers a deposit of up to 25% of the agreed price with the company or £7,500 which ever is the lesser.

The policy covers you for a period of up to 90 days from the date you pay your deposit. If you have paid a deposit to a company who then ceases to trade due to liquidation, receivership, administration or winding up the business due to bankruptcy, state retirement or death of the principal(s), your deposit is either refunded to you in full, or the work is completed by another company at the balance agreed price.

Important Notice:
You MUST register your deposit, otherwise you will not be covered. When paying your deposit, you must ask the CPAmember for a Deposit Registration form. This must be returned to us by recorded delivery within 7 days.

How long will the visit from your double glazing designer take?
All appointments are totally free and should last no longer than 1 hour. It may however take a little longer when considering conservatories so the designer can take down all measurements and discuss the various options available.
How long will it take to install new windows and doors?
Every job is different!  In all honesty a job done by Precison Windows will take as long as necessary to ensure you get the best job possible!

New properties tend to be quicker and easier installations than older properties, and it very much depends upon how many windows and doors we are installing.

Do you sell energy rated windows in other colours apart from white?
Yes, PSA Windows can supply A – C rated replacement windows in any colour. There may be slight differences in the glass specification and frame thickness between white UPVC windows and foiled windows – freephone 0800 074 0840 and we’ll be happy to help.
I hear a lot about energy rated windows! What does 'A' rated windows mean?
A rated windows are the most energy efficient windows available in the UK as defined by the BFRC Rating Scheme.

This is the UK’s national system for rating the energy efficiency of windows and is recognised within the Building Regulations as a method to show compliance for your replacement windows installation. Window Energy Ratings use a consumer-friendly traffic-light style A-G ratings guide similar to that used on ‘white’ goods (such as fridges, freezers, washing machines etc…).

This ratings label can be used by you to make more informed choices about the energy efficiency of the windows you are looking to purchase.

Is Precision Windows a member of FENSA?
Precision Windows are members of FENSA (Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme) Registered No. 27725. FENSA has been set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and other industry bodies with Government encouragement in response to the current Building Regulations for England and Wales.

When having windows and doors replaced homeowners must comply with current thermal performance standards and ensure that they get a certificate of compliance from FENSA or from Local Authority Building Control.

FENSA also enables companies that install replacement windows and doors to self certify compliance under these Building Regulations.

Is Precision Windows licensed by the CPA
Yes, Precision Windows are licensed by the CPA (Consumer Protection Association) Registered No. 246. The CPA is a Financial Services Authority (FSA) authorised organisation which offers consumers valuable protection when purchasing home improvements.

A CPA member is a company that has met strict criteria which ensures they are thoroughly professional, reliable, provide ethical products and services and can prove they have the ability to produce the highest quality of work.

When buying your windows through Precision Windows you are covered by the CPA’s Deposit Indemnity and Insurance Backed Guarantee giving you complete peace of mind that you are in good hands.

How much will I save on my energy bills if I replace my old windows?
According to the BFRC, if your home is single glazed or your double glazing was installed prior to April 2002 then you could be losing more heat than necessary, and therefore money, literally out of the window. However, by switching to Energy Efficient Windows you can save energy and reduce your household bills by as much as £461 per year.

If you live in a single glazed house and install Energy Efficient Windows, you could reduce the energy you use by 0.30 tonnes or 18% – almost reaching the Government target of 20% reduction per household. Add to this other simple energy saving measures – such as insulating your home and turning down the central heating by 1° C – and you could be making a real impact on reducing your carbon footprint.

The GGF (Glass and Glazing Federation) has created a carbon calculator which allows homeowners to find out how much they can save on their energy bills and by how much they can reduce their carbon footprint through the installation of Energy Efficient Windows. It also tells homeowners how much more they could save by installing the highest rated Energy Efficient Windows (rated ‘A’) over others levels (‘B’ to ‘G’).

How much will it cost me to replace my windows and doors?
Every home is different – the shape and size of everyone’s windows and doors are not the same too! Our different homes and styles means we all have different requirements.

Because every home is different, all our windows and doors are tailor-made specially for your home and because we offer such a wide range of styles, openings and fittings we will need to visit your home to measure up before we can give you an accurate idea of how much it will cost.

You can book a home visit usually within 24 hours by calling our freephone 0800 074 0840.

Or if you prefer you can book a free design consultation online. Simply take a moment entering the details on our ‘Appointment Booking Form’. We will then contact you to arrange a visit to your home or in our Worthing office.

What is the difference between PVC Windows, PVCu Windows & UPVC Windows?
There is no difference whatsoever and to be absolutely correct it is PVC-U and neither of the above!

In the UK UPVC changed it’s name to PVCU in the late 1980’s to fall in line with other European countries. It seems that they were all calling it call it PVC-U because European languages mostly place the noun (being PVC in this case) before the adjective (U).

The ‘PVC’ part of it stands for Poly Vinyl Chloride. The ‘U’ stands for Un-plasticised. Poly Vinyl Chloride, which we know as every day ‘PVC’ is modified and can then be used in the manufacture of products such as bags, shoes and also fake leather. It is the use of this material which has made us familiar with the abbreviation ‘PVC’.

Pure PVC-U is not quite suitable for replacement windows and doors. A small amount of additives are required, necessary to provide longevity, high weather and UV resistance, and also to achieve a white colour making it ideal to use for the production of windows and doors.

What colours do your replacement windows and doors come in?
Our replacement windows and doors come in a range of colours and whilst the standard manufactured colour for UPVC is white, we also do another eight types of coloured windows.

In addition to the universally popular brilliant white windows, you can also choose traditional wood grains in the rich, dark elegance of Rosewood or the delightful lighter Golden Oak option. You can even choose from our fabulous new range comprising of cream, whitegrain, green, grey, rustic cherry and also black.

All the windows are also available in combinations with white so you can have the outside of your home in a different colour to the inside, if you wish.

How long are your windows guaranteed for?
All our double glazing windows are guaranteed for 10 years.
Do you sell any wooden windows or timber products
No, we don’t sell windows or doors made from wood as we specialise in high grade UPVC & Aluminium, but we do actually have a range of realistic woodgrain effect windows that look just as good if not better timber windows!

If you would like the traditional look of timber but without the associated maintenance hassles like painting, rotting and warping of real wood, then our realistic wood effect windows are just for you and your home.
